| David was born in Birmingham in 1937, but lived in Yorkshire and Cheshire until 1954. He started having piano lessons at the age of seven and went on to study piano and theory at the Northern School of Music Junior School, continuing his studies at the Birmingham School of Music before becoming a full-time student there in 1955, where his studies included piano, theory, organ and cello. He gained his teaching diploma in 1958. He taught at various schools in Birmingham, becoming head of the music department at Yardley Grammar School. He finished his teaching career at Alvechurch Middle School before taking early retirement. He served as assistant organist at the church of the Ascension and at St Michael's Hall Green. Since 1985 he has been organist and choirmaster at St Laurence, Alvechurch, and has been a member of the bass section of B.G.C.S since 1976. He is also a past Chair of the Society. He ably filled this post with the choir between January and April 2002. |
